SMEC wins India State Highway deal

SMEC is now working on construction supervision and contract administration for the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project (stage Two) in India. The project is located in Karnataka State and the contract was awarded to SMEC earlier by the local authorities.

1326 SMEC is now working on construction supervision and contract administration for the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project (stage Two) in India. The project is located in Karnataka State and the contract was awarded to SMEC earlier by the local authorities. In all, the project will see some 620km of state highways being upgraded. There are nine separate civil works packages involved in this stage of the project, which has a total value of US$300 million. The 943 Asian Development Bank is funding the upgrade work, which includes new road alignments for two lane roads, widening of other road sections and the development of dual carriageways with separated median stretches.

    Road in the area around Mindanao in the Philippines will benefit from the provision of a loan worth US$380 million. This funding package is being supplied by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The loan will be used for the Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector project. This is intended to improve and upgrade up to 280km of roads in the area. A further $123 million is being provided by the Philippines Government for the work, which will cost $503 million in all.
