The six 688 Bauma Innovation Award 2013 winners have been revealed.

Pipe Express, from 2592 Herrenknecht, triumphed in the Machinery category, while AutoPilot Field Rover, from 2395 Wirtgen, took the Machine Components section.

The Construction process/Construction work category had two winners. They were: Monopile foundation, for a tidal engine turbine from Bauer Spezialtiefbau; and Max Bögl, for hybrid-energy wind towers constructed with revolving tower cranes.

The final two winners were: Online Grain Size Analyzer, from the Technical University of Clausthal, in the Research section; and Walking Mobile Excavator 2013, from Kaiser AG Fahrzeugwerk, in the Design category.

Out of a total of 156 entries from Germany and abroad, 15 ground-breaking new developments and solutions made it through to the final round.

According to the speakers at the presentation ceremony, these six winning innovations met the high-calibre jury’s criteria of innovations that held great promise for the future; that provided practicality of application; made a contribution to environmental protection and to the humanisation of the workplace; and demonstrated energy- and cost-efficiency coupled with performance.

Dr Thomas Lindner, president of the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau e.V. (VDMA) the German Engineering Federation, said the awards provided proof of the innovative strength of German engineering and the performance capability of the whole of the construction equipment manufacturing sector.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the bauma Innovation Award.
The world’s largest construction equipment exhibition held at the 3995 Messe München Exhibition Center in Munich is this year hosting more than 3,400 exhibitors from 57 countries – a rise on the 3,256 exhibitors from 53 countries who showcased their equipment ranges at the previous event three years ago.
