Shantui (Ghana) recently held its official opening in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

In attendance were China’s Commercial Counsellor to Ghana, Gao Wenzhi; the minister of Trade and Industry of Ghana, Hanna Tetteh; the minister of Roads and Highways of Ghana, Joseph Gidisu; the deputy general manager of 1171 Shantui Construction Machinery, Cheng Zhaohong, who is also general manager of Shantui Construction Machinery Import and Export; Shantui’s Togo dealer, Cameroon dealer, Democratic Republic of Congo dealer, and the representatives from local China-invested enterprises in Ghana, and local customers, totalling more than 150 persons, were also in attendance.

Cheng emphasised that the founding of Shantui (Ghana) is an important step for the firm’s strategy of internationalisation and another move for Shantui’s overseas business. He also added that Shantui now has a distribution base in 23 countries in West Africa and Central Africa.

This move is of note, as in recent years growing relations between China and Ghana have seen increasing economic trade and cooperation. China’s imports from Ghana have grown from US$93 million in 2000 to over $1.5 billion/year at present. China is now the largest importer of Ghanaian-made products.

Following the establishment of Shantui (Ghana), the Chinese firm intends to further capitalise on this construction machinery market, obtain first-hand market information, timely understand the market trends and increase business opportunities.

The company says it also intends to support local dealers in terms of distribution of machines and parts, boost after-sales service and improve the distribution and service network. The company’s aim is to promote sales of Shantui products in Central Africa and West Africa.
