Construction of the bridge over the Sava River between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, near the Bosnian town of Bosanska Gradiška has been completed.

However, it will open only after completion of customs facilities on the Croatian side, according to media reports.

Work started in 2019 by Integral Inženjering as main contractor together with Đuro Đaković Montaža and Zagreb-Montaža. The bridge’s engineer was a joint venture of Germany-based KREBS + KIEFER Eastern Europe and Institut IGH, a private Croatian company.

The joint client was Croatia’s state highways agency Hrvatske ceste and Bosnia’s Ministry of Communication and Transport.

According to Integral Inženjering, the 462m-long and 22.6m-wide bridge is of a continuous single-cell steel box girder design with consoles on both sides.

The bridge is part of a larger project, contracted to Integral Inženjering that includes an expressway in Croatia from the bridge to run through the Croatian town of Okučani and north to the border with Hungary. It is also part of the European E-661 road, connecting Split with Banja Luka, Virovitica and Balaton.

The contract value was around €23.5 million. The European Union co-financed construction with €3.2 million in grants, which were combined with a €5.6 million favorable loan from the European Investment Bank.
