Russian roads revamp

Plans are in hand in Russia’s capital Moscow for the rebuilding of nine highways leading out of the city. The work will be carried out by 2014 and is being funded out of the US$69.55 billion budget set for the city’s 2012-2016 transport development programme.

Plans are in hand in Russia’s capital Moscow for the rebuilding of nine highways leading out of the city. The work will be carried out by 2014 and is being funded out of the US$69.55 billion budget set for the city’s 2012-2016 transport development programme. A substantial portion will be spent on road construction and maintenance and the city authorities are currently looking for contractors to carry out the works. Tenders are being invited for the rebuilding of Entuziastov Shosse, a section of Leningradsky Prospect from the Moscow Ring Road to Sokol metro station, Mozhayskoye Highway, Ryazansky Prospect AND Volgogradsky Prospect . They are also called for roads from Balaklavsky Prospect to Rublevskoye Highway, and Yaroslavskoye Highway, while work on Varshavskoye and Kashirskoye Highways is already underway.

    China’s Guizhou Province is setting out a massive budget for road expansion to boost access to rural areas. This will see the construction of some 50,000km of roads in 2018. In all US$3.15 billion is being spent on road development. So far 35,000km of road projects are underway in Guizhou Province with nearly 9,400km of road jobs already having been completed. By the end of the second quarter of 2018, all of the planned projects within this programme of works will be underway or complete.

  • Major Canadian toll road extension project awarded

    A joint venture formed by SNC Lavalin and Cintra Infrastructure will handle the contract to extend Highway 407 in Canada. This US$974.4 million (C$1 billion) deal was awarded by the authorities in Ontario to a joint-venture called the 407 East Development Group General Partnership and is a partnership between Spanish firm Cintra (a subsidiary of Ferrovial) and Canadian company SNC-Lavalin of Canada.     Russia is setting out its budget plans for transport infrastructure investment. In all a healthy US$43.92 billion is being planned for transport infrastructure development in Russia during the 2016-2018 period. This will be used to maintain and repair existing routes as well as to develop new links. Road projects figure highly in the spending although investments will also be made into rail and air transportation.
