Russian road revamp due

Russia plans to invest US$2.16 billion over the coming three years in rebuilding federal highways running through the Central Federal District.

Russia plans to invest US$2.16 billion over the coming three years in rebuilding federal highways running through the Central Federal District. The Russia, Don, Caspian, Ural, Kholmogory, Baltic, Volga Highways will be rebuilt under the plan. The inner and outer ring roads around capital Moscow will also be rebuilt according to the plan. The aim is to upgrade the country's key links, including highways linking major cities.

To meet the country’s infrastructure needs, Russia’s National Association of Builders estimates that some 1,500km of roads must be built/year.     Construction work on the Central Section of Russia’s Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD) in St Petersburg is complete, with some small detail work now being finished off. The WHSD connects the Southern, Central and Northern sections of St Petersburg and will open to traffic at the end of December.
