Rural road programme for China

A programme of rural road improvements will see the upgrade of 100,000km of links in China's Sichuan Province.

A programme of rural road improvements will see the upgrade of 100,000km of links in China's Sichuan Province. The work is expected to cost US$2.4 billion. The programme of works forms part of the 12th five-year plan, set out for the 2011-2015 period. The upgrades will result in some 75% of the rural roads featuring asphalt surfaces. In 2011, the plan calls for the upgrade of 20,000km of rural roads in the province.

The deal will see Ghana effectively trading bauxite from a mining operation with a Chinese firm, which will build road links in the West African nation.     A major road building programme is expected in Peru in due course. The country’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in Peru is planning 12 road concessions that will extend some 4,740km. These concessions will be worth in excess of US$3 billion in the period up to 2016. Peru’s Government wants to continue progress made so far in improving connectivity in the country and also with its neighbours.
