Romanian road bids

Bidding is healthy for key road projects in Romania. Four companies and one consortium have submitted bids for the modernisation of the DN18 national road linking Baia Mare with Iacobeni.

Bidding is healthy for key road projects in Romania. Four companies and one consortium have submitted bids for the modernisation of the DN18 national road linking Baia Mare with Iacobeni. The 200km project is worth €194.65 million, excluding VAT. The bidders are: Shapir of Israel, 945 Strabag of Austria, Aktor and Mochlos of Greece and a consortium formed by Spedition UMB and Tehnostrade. Shapir, Aktor and Strabag placed bids for the upgrade to the stretch between Baia Mare and Sighetul Marmatiei and the section from Sighetul Marmatiei - Moisei. The three companies also placed bids for the upgrade of the third segment of the national road between Moisei and Iacobeni. The works will take up to 24 months, with financing from the 1054 European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Romanian Government.

    In Romania plans are in hand for a new ring road around the city of Satu Mare. The 19.5km ring road will reduce congestion in the city, which lies in the north of the country. The tender process has been opened by the Romanian roads authority, CNADNR, with bids being received until the 10th November 2014. Including VAT, the project will cost in the region of €184.7 million to construct and is expected to take four years to complete, with financing being delivered by the Operational Programme for Transport.

    Bosnia’ public roads authority Autoceste FB&H has re-tendered for construction of 12km of the Pocitelj-Zvirovici part of the Corridor 5C motorway. The work, including the 945m Pocitelj Bridge, is worth around €100million with financing by the European Investment Bank (EIB). A previous tender was called in 2014 when the contract has been awarded to Strabag and Euroasfalt companies, in spite of better offers from Viadukt and Hering, according to media reports.
