Romania: more A3 soon to open

Around 160km of the A3 are now open.

Romania will complete the 6.3km Rasnov-Cristian section of the A3 motorway by the end of the year, according to the government.

The A3 motorway, when finished, will run nearly 600km from the capital Bucharest to the Transylvania region and the northwest part of the country. It will take in the towns and cities of Ploiești, Brașov, Făgăraș, Sighișoara, Târgu Mureș, Cluj-Napoca, Zalău and Oradea. At the border it will connect with Hungary's M4 motorway near Borș.

Around 160km are open, including the 62km Bucharest-Ploiești motorway segment.

Other sections under construction are the 16km Cheţani-Câmpia Turzii segment and the 4.5km Târgu Mureş-Ungheni segment.

The government plans to invest around €33 billion into thie national road network between 2021-2027, noted national media outlets.

The National Company for the Administration of Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) said the value of the deal is around €427.5 million. Construction is likely to take 60 months - 16 months for design work and 44 for construction. The bidders are from China, Turkey, Austria and Italy. Lot
