Road safety improving

A slight improvement in road safety has been seen in Kenya for the January to September 2017 period compared with the figures for the same months during 2016. There were 1,919 reported road deaths during January to September 2017 compared with 2,078 reported fatalities in January to September 2016. The number of drivers killed in crashes during January to September 2017 dropped to 212 while the number of pedestrians killed in road crashes during this period dropped to 714.

A slight improvement in road safety has been seen in Kenya for the January to September 2017 period compared with the figures for the same months during 2016. There were 1,919 reported road deaths during January to September 2017 compared with 2,078 reported fatalities in January to September 2016. The number of drivers killed in crashes during January to September 2017 dropped to 212 while the number of pedestrians killed in road crashes during this period dropped to 714/. However there was an increase in road deaths amongst motorcycle riders during January to September 2017, with fatalities of 154 during this period.

Of note though is that the same period, global sales of construction equipment declined by 1%. German companies managed to perform better than the world market and develop market share.   • Fall in EU road fatalities

    Latest statistics show road fatalities fell in the European Union by 11% in 2010 compared with the previous year. Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, France and Slovenia have all made reductions of more than 50% in the number of deaths on their roads since 2001, says the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC). The organisation’s 2011 PIN [Road Safety Performance Index] Awards went to Sweden and Lithuania recognising their particular efforts in reducing road deaths.

  • Bangkok plans new road safety drive

    The authorities in Bangkok are planning a tough safety drive in a bid to reduce the city’s high road death toll. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) promised to reduce the number of traffic offences by holding road awareness campaigns. In 2014, a total of 27,460 road crashes were reported in Bangkok, resulting in 262 deaths, 348 critical injures and 11,225 slight injuries.
