Road safety improvement for Italy in 2013

Data from the ACI-ITAT body in Italy reveals an improvement in the country’s road safety in 2013. The statistics show a 2.2% drop in vehicle crashes for 2013 compared with 2012. The data shows that there has been a 6.9% drop in fatalities and a 2% drop in injuries on Italian roads during 2013 compared with 2012. However ACI-ITAT warns that there is no room for complacency as there are still around 500 crashes/day in Italy.

In France, the road fatality rate fell 4.7% for the month of June 2012, compared with the same period in the previous year. Some 320 people were killed on French roads in June 2012. But in April 2012 the road death rate dropped 22.2% compared with 2011, 9% in March and 25.3% in February.

    Concern has been expressed at the increase in road deaths in the US. There were 37,461 road deaths on US roads in 2016, an increase of 5.6% from 2015. The data comes from the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA data was collected from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It also shows that the vehicle distance travelled on US roads in 2016 increased by 2.2%.
