An event is being held in Brussels aimed at preventing road crashes and injuries for the safety of employees. The 1197 European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) is holding the 8th Annual European PRAISE Conference, which will focus on work-related road safety. This is being run on the 17th October 2018 at the Renaissance Hotel, Rue du Parnasse 19, 1050 Brussels.

Using the road network is a necessary part of human activity. But this leads to an incredibly high level of injury and death. It is estimated that in Europe six out of ten work accidents resulting in death are road collisions, including both crashes while driving for work and commuting crashes (Eurogip). Also, according to the European Commission, it is likely that road traffic collisions account for up to 40% of incidents at work resulting in death. The PRAISE project addresses the safety aspects of driving at work and driving to work.

The conference will bring together fleet safety managers, EU institutions, government representatives, and road safety experts to discuss the latest developments and priorities in work related road safety. The winners of the ETSC PRAISE Awards 2018 will also be announced.

Preliminary data from France over the number of fatalities on the road network reveal safety improvements during 2012. The numbers killed dropped by 7-8%, although the final figures for December are not yet available. The preliminary figures suggest that around 3,600-3,700 were killed on French roads in 2012, compared with 3,970 in 2011. This reduction is in line with targets on cutting the death rate and Ministry of the Interior wants to bring the fatality rate to just 2,000 by 2020. This reduction has bee
