Road concessions for Mozambique

The authorities in Mozambique are evaluating tenders for two key road concessions, worth a total of US$700 million.

The authorities in Mozambique are evaluating tenders for two key road concessions, worth a total of US$700 million. The first tender is for the 470km N1 road between capital Maputo and Maxixe and the concession will be for the operation and maintenance of this link. The second tender is for the N6 and N7 roads, with the deal again including operation and maintenance. An alliance formed by Portuguese construction firm, 1329 Edifer, and engineering firm, 1330 Tecnovia, has been prequalified to compete for the two road concessions.

    A new stretch of highway is now opening to traffic in India. The 80km stretch of highway runs between Kundli and through Manesar to Palwal. Called the KMP Expressway, the route has had something of a checkered history and has been completed somewhat later than originally intended. The concession was originally awarded in 2006 and the road should have been completed in 2009, according to the planned timeline.

  • Tanzania to Burundi road links to be upgraded

    Two roads linking Tanzania with Burundi in East Africa will be upgraded. Construction work will start in 2019. Some US$322 million of funding is being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Upgrades will be carried out on the roads connecting Rumonge with Gitaz as well as Kabingo with Kasulu and Manyovu. An new border post will be constructed.

    The Mozambique government will build a road to link between the country and neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Zimbabwe, Malawi and Zambia. According to Cadmiel Muthemba, the Housing and Public Works Minister, works on the US$400 million project are due to commence from February 2014, with funds for the project provided by a loan extended by Exim Bank of China.
