Road concessions for Mozambique

The authorities in Mozambique are evaluating tenders for two key road concessions, worth a total of US$700 million.

The authorities in Mozambique are evaluating tenders for two key road concessions, worth a total of US$700 million. The first tender is for the 470km N1 road between capital Maputo and Maxixe and the concession will be for the operation and maintenance of this link. The second tender is for the N6 and N7 roads, with the deal again including operation and maintenance. An alliance formed by Portuguese construction firm, 1329 Edifer, and engineering firm, 1330 Tecnovia, has been prequalified to compete for the two road concessions.

The 851km section of highway runs through Mato Grosso state and the deal is worth some US$2 billion, according to a report by Business News Americas. As part of its contract, Odebrecht will have to widen a 454km stretch of the route within five years and is also required to build nine new toll booths.

    Plans are in hand for major upgrades to Russia’s road network. Russian Highways (Avtodor) aims to construct 958km of roads, as well as to reconstruct 963km of road and improve 700km of road bed by 2019. The 684km M11 highway linking Moscow with St Petersburg is the top-priority. A 72km bypass road will be built in the Tver region.     The tender process is still underway for three sections of the new super highway project to connect Nagpur and Mumbai in India. Meanwhile 10 of the contracts for the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Expressway (NMSCE) have now been awarded. The NMSCE highway project will provide an improved transport link between Nagpur and Mumbai, which are around 690km apart.
