Ring road for Sarajevo nears completion

The Sarajevo Ring Road in Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to be completed by October 2012. The construction of the 5.6km long highway from Josanica to Butila is being carried out by a consortium of companies made up of HP Investing and Strabag. The Sarajevo Ring Road in Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to be completed by October 2012. The construction of the 5.6km long highway from Josanica to Butila is being carried out by a consortium of companies made up of 5576 HP Investing and 945 Strabag. The completed Ring Road will be part of the future Corridor Vc motorway. Bosnia and Herzegovina Federal Minister of Transport and Telecoms, Enver Bijedic, and State Minister of Telecoms and Transport and Director of the roads company JP Ceste FBiH, Filip Vujevo, recently visited the Sarajevo Ring Road construction site. The project has received US$20.54million from the 1166 European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the 1054 European Investment Bank (EIB).

    Bosnia and Croatia are looking to discuss a new highway construction project to link the two countries. The Adriatic-Ionic section of the Corridor VC motorway looks likely to pass through Bosnia. The plan is to build a total of 110km of roads, out of the planned 336km on the Corridor VC, by 2012.

    Plans are in hand in Romania for the upgrades to the Bucharest ring road. This work is due to be completed by 2014, according to the country’s Transport Ministry. Reconstruction and modernisation of the Chitila-Voluntari segment of the ring road was completed in 2010 and the modernisation of another two segments were completed in 2011.     In Romania the road authorities have signed a deal for the construction of a 22km stretch of highway in a contract worth €91 million. The Portuguese contractor Monte Adriano will construct the section linking Nadlac with Pecica. Romania has pledged to improve and expand its highway network with the construction of new links, and much of the funding for its highway plans has been provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
