A new bridge project is expected to boost transport in and out of a key port in Vietnam. Approval is being sought to go ahead with the bridge for the port of Haiphong, which lies on the coast close to the city of Hanoi. The project is expected to cost nearly US$304 million.
Traffic jams in the UK are costing the country's 8.2 million drivers US$683.31 million (£426mn) a year in wasted fuel, according to an estimate in a report by the analytics firm Inrix. The cost, which equates to £52 a vehicle, is on top of an estimated wasted driver time cost of £2.7bn. Out of the traffic on the country's roads during the day Inrix states that 19% is freight, with business vehicles passing on £1.1 billion of costs every year to consumers in order to cover the cost of them waiting in traffic
Plans are in hand to construct a bridge spanning the Soai Rap River. The project has been given official approval from the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People's Committee. The project for the new Can Gio Bridge is expected to cost close to US$352 million. The 3.4km bridge will carry four lanes of traffic and will connect Can Gio district with the inner part of HCMC. Can Gio Urban Tourism, and Trung Nam Construction Investment jointly worked on the plans for the bridge.
Plans are being worked on that will attempt to reduce traffic congestion in Algerian capital Algiers. The city has a chronic traffic problem, with some 1.7 million registered vehicles circulating on a road network with insufficient capacity. Blocked routes and bottlenecks compound the problem in many areas so a new plan aims to address these issues by building new major and minor roads, underpasses and flyovers.
