Vietnam is pushing ahead with a series of road, highway and bridge projects that will improve the country’s transport network.
Feasibility studies for three stretches of the North-South Expressway have been received by Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport (MoT). The 29km stretch from Nha Trang to Cam Lam is expected to cost US$177.9 million, with work starting in 2019 and due for completion in 2021. A series of major highway and road projects have been proposed for Vietnam. Investors have submitted a proposal to build North-South road costing an estimated US$383.8 million. Another proposal has come from the Project Management Board 85 to develop Bien Hoa-Tan Thanh-Cai Mep Seaport expressway, with an estimated cost of $591.5 million.
More than US$617 million (VND 13 trillion) will be required by Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City for road construction and repairs in 2014, according to a national newspaper quoting the city's Department of Transport. Ho Chi Minh City needs the money to fulfil plans to construct 10 new bridges and 45km of road covering 397,000m².
Of the total funding demand, $108.27 million (VND 2.3 trillion) will be official development assistance (ODA) loans, while $329.54 million (VND 7 trillion) will come from Ho Chi Minh Cit
