In Russia’s Novosibirsk Region, plans are underway for the South-Western Transit road. The project is of a 30km link road connecting the existing Northern and Eastern bypass roads. Funding worth in excess of US$127 million will be provided by the Russian Federal Road Agency, Rosavtodor. The remaining $273.3 million required for the project will come from private investors. The project is being carried out under the PPP model.

The Russian Government is considering a significant cut to the existing road building programme for the current year. This is due to a current economic crisis in the country, caused by Western sanctions as well as a collapse in the price of oil and gas.
Overall, Russia is to benefit from a major highway investment programme. The Federal Transport Development Programme will feature a budget of $21.5 billion for the 2010-2015 period. Some $15.1 billion is to be allocated for highway construction and repairs. Russian city St Petersburg and the surrounding the Leningrad region will see the start of major investment in infrastructure during 2011.
