Povolzhupravtodor, a subsidiary of the Russian 2865 Federal Highway Agency, has announced a tender for major repairs of a 25km long section of Russia’s M5 Ural highway in the Samara area of Volga. The contract is estimated to be worth US $ 43.16 million.
An important road widening project is starting in the Republic of Bashkortostan, part of the Russian Federation. The contractor, Khotkovsky Avtomost, will widen a 19.65km stretch of the M5 route from a single lane in either direction at present so that it will have two lanes in either direction. The work will improve transport to and from the city of Ufa, home to one of the largest truck manufacturers in the Russian Federation. New highway and bridge projects are being planned that will boost connectivity in the Russian Federation. One project lies close to the city of Ufa while another is in the Perm Region. The project to build the new Eastern Exit highway link close to Ufa, capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan, is now expected to cost US$590.1 million, compared with the $503.3 million that was originally anticipated.
OHL Mexico, a subsidiary of Spanish construction firm OHL, has confirmed it will bid for the construction and operation contract for Mexico’s La Raza-Indios Verdes-Santa Clara motorway.
The 9.5km road worth around US$364 million will be let as a public-private partnership under the federal government’s National Infrastructure Programme, Mexico’s El Economista newspaper reported.
A total of 14 companies are interested in the project, including Pinfra, Ideal, Prodemex, China Harbour Engineering Mexico
The RADOR association, the leading organisation for advocating, planning, financing, building and maintaining roads in Russia’s regions, estimates the country’s North-Western Federal District needs US$5.367 billion (RUB 161.8bn) for road network repair and maintenance every year. RADOR says that around 19.7% of required funding was provided for regional road maintenance in 2012, along with 41.4% of funding for road repairs, and 6.3% of funding for road overhaul. The Leningrad region received 25% (RUB 5.1bn)
