Quebec will take responsibility for its bridges from Canada’s Government

A transfer of responsibility is planned for bridges in Qeubec, Canada. Structures currently under the responsibility of the Canadian Federal Government may be handed over to the Quebec Government, should proposed moves be made. This policy looks likely to include the Jacques Cartier Bride.

After the completion of the Champlain Bridge, planned for for 2021, the Federal Government may hand over the bridge to the provincial government. This is due to the Federal Government's lack of sufficient funds for the project, estimated at US$3.02-5.04 billion (C$3-5 billion). The tender process for studies on a replacement for the Champlain Bridge will be published shortly. Studies will look at the financial aspects of the replacement, including toll prices that will help contribute to the bridge's construction and maintenance. The aim is to receive tender bids for construction by 2015 to 2016. The old Champlain Bridge would then be demolished between 2022 and 2024.
