A project worth US1 billion will improve a 6.5km stretch of the Dukhan Highway in Qatar. The work will be complex and involves the construction of five new interchanges, as well as sufficient storm water provisions and is expected to take 42 months to complete. The work will be carried out by a joint venture comprising the 2800 Saudi Binladin Group and local firm 3438 Qatari Diar.

A Chinese firm, China State Construction Engineering, is to handle the project for the 393km highway, which runs from Sukkur to Multan.     Work is now underway to set up the tolling system for Algeria’s East-West highway. The project is costing US$1.29 billion and will be carried out by three different consortia, owing mainly to the length of the route. Work for the eastern stretch of the highway will be carried out by a consortium comprising the Italian groups CMC, Proger, Cordioli & C, Ducati Italia and Tecnositaf, and the Algerian groups Rotahem and Imet.
