Qatar road deal attracts interest

Keen interest is being shown in the tender stage for the first stretch of Qatar's US$700 million Lusail Expressway project.

A series of major international contractors have placed bids for the project and with some large companies forming partnerships and consortia for the deal, according to Qatari public works authority 2559 Ashghal. Firms placing bids so far include 2712 Habtoor Leighton Group from Australia and the UAE, 2717 Ferrovial from Spain, 236 Hyundai Engineering from South Korea, Saudi Oger and the 2715 SBG Group from Saudi Arabia and 945 Strabag from Austria. The first section of the Lusail Expressway will run from the Arch roundabout to the Ritz Carlton in Doha.

    South Korean contractor Hyundai Engineering looks set to win the deal to build Kuwait’s Subiya Causeway project. The award of the deal for this massive US$2.6 billion project has been delayed several times so far but is now on track to be awarded by the end of 2011. It still requires parliamentary approval but has been given approval from Kuwait's Central Tenders Committee (CTC). Hyundai Engineering submitted its bid, the lowest of several made, for the project in February 2011.

  • New Hyundai – Cummins JV factory opens in Korea

    A new joint venture factory in South Korea has now been completed for the Hyundai Cummins partnership. The 78,045m2 Hyundai Engine Company (HCEC) plant is located in Daegu and will produce engines for construction machines. The two firms agreed a deal to establish the joint venture plant, capable of producing 50,000 engines/year, back in December 2012.
