Projects under scrutiny in Mexico

Close scrutiny of projects awarded to contractors MCC and OHL is being carried out in the Mexican state of Puebla.

Close scrutiny of projects awarded to contractors 1351 MCC and 980 OHL is being carried out in the Mexican state of Puebla. The new administration in the state is evaluating contracts these two firms that were agreed by the previous administration. The focus of the investigation will be the purchase of land for certain projects. Both MCC and OHL have carried out a string of infrastructure projects in Puebla State. However, the Libramiento Norte and Poniente projects, which are worth a total of US$166 million, are going ahead as planned for the time being.

This 13km project was carried out by Spanish contractor OHL, having been awarded in 2014 by Vietnam Expressway Corporation. Financing for the work came from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Meanwhile OHL is also building a 544m viaduct over the Lanch Tray River in Vietnam that will provide a new link to the coastal city of Hai Phong.

  • A major new tunnel being built in Mexico

    Plans are in hand in Mexico for a new road tunnel that will provide a key link. The 7km tunnel will be constructed at Acapulco port, in Guerrero state. The project is expected to cost in the order of US$214.75 million to complete. Work is due to commence in late January 2013 and should be completed within a two year time scale. The new tunnel will help improve logistics and communications for firm using the port. The project is being carried out by Mexican contractor ICA.
