Benoît de Ruffray, chief executive of Eiffage Group: smaller road budgets means optimising road management

Road transport is an essential element of the mobility of people and the transport of goods. Thus, maintaining the road infrastructures in good condition and constantly adapting them to the needs of the public and businesses has become an imperative

“The upkeep and modernisation of road networks is an important part of 5871 Eiffage Group's business in France and abroad,” says Benoît de Ruffray, chief executive of Eiffage. “In recent years, we have witnessed a significant reduction in road maintenance budgets as a direct consequence of the public finance crisis and a downturn in the condition of pavements and road equipment.

“This has prompted industry organisations to warn public authorities and undertake a wide range of initiatives to raise the awareness of decision-makers and assist them in optimising road management,” said de Ruffray.

One of these initiatives, he explained, is the organisation, together with many French and foreign partners, of the major international convention in Nice, the PPRS - Pavement Preservation and Recycling Summit - from March 26-28.

“The purpose of the event is to help policy and technical leaders to optimise road management by examining the practices, experiences and innovations implemented worldwide. This is an excellent opportunity to review policy, financial, contractual, managerial and technical issues relating to the maintenance and modernisation of highways and roads,” he said.

Eiffage Route will participate in meetings and in the exhibition to present its solutions and research projects, as well as to establish a dialogue with all its partners to further improve the service provided to its customers and to road users.
