Portuguese motorway operator Brisa plans to invest €50 million in 2013. The bulk of the money will go on road re-laying and expanding roads in Aguas Santas and Soure (A1). The investment sum represents a decrease compared to previous years, which is attributed to lower prices in the construction sector.

    The Spanish government has calculated the cost of rescuing Spain's nine bankrupt motorways at €1.8 billion. This is about 10% less than previously estimated, according to a report in the Spanish financial newspaper Expansión.     The northern German city of Hamburg is planning to expand the A1 motorway to eight lanes in the southeast. Widening should take place on the 8km-long stretch between Harburg and the Hamburg-Südost triangle, according to a report in the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. Two bridges over the Norderelbe and Süderelbe rivers are likely to be replaced and the Hamburg-Süd intersection would be rebuilt.
