The EC is not keen for Poland to use rail funds for roads.

The EC is not keen for Poland to use rail funds for roads. This became clear during talks between Poland's Ministry of Infrastructure and the 2465 European Commission (EC). This means that funds worth €1.2 billion originally allocated for rail projects will not be transferred to road spending. A final ruling by the EC has yet to be made, although Poland may appeal. The Polish Government wanted to reallocate the rail funds to the road programme to make up for budget spending cuts.

  • European police group TISPOL committed to helping cut road deaths

    In its latest three-year strategic plan, the European Traffic Police Network has reaffirmed its commitment to the European Union’s road death reduction target of 50% by 2020. World Highways reported last month that road deaths fell by just 1% in the EU in 2014, according to data released by the European Commission.   • New Polish highway projects are being planned

    Plans are moving forward for two key highway projects in Poland. The Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) says that the best offer for the construction of the Rzeszow - Jaroslaw section of the A4 highway has been submitted by a consortium comprising contractors Budimex and Strabag.
