The 3519 Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) plans to announce over 30 tenders for road investments during the first half of 2009.

GDDKiA's budget for 2009 is estimated at €7.68 billion. Among others, a tender will be called for the construction of a ring road around the Polish town of Krasnik and for the construction of the S19 road from Miedzyrzec Podlaski to Lubartow, which will also include the construction of two ring roads around Kocek and around Wola Skromowska.

GDDKiA is also calling for tenders for the rebuilding of the national road number 5 section between Wroclaw and Trzebnica.

One of the key projects already awarded goes to a consortium comprising Polish firm, 3302 Budimex, and its Spanish owner 2717 Ferrovial. The contract is for the construction and 30 year operation of the 180km Strykow to Pyrzowice toll road. Investment is expected to reach over €1.8 billion and this project is of note as it is the first toll road in Poland to be awarded to firms with Spanish capital. Ferrovial and 930 Cintra are also the favourites for the award of the Strykow-Konotopa road, which is expected to require investment of €1 billion.
