PNG plans infrastructure upgrades

The authorities in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be able to boost transport infrastructure following the provision of a development assistance grant worth US$371.35 million.

The authorities in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be able to boost transport infrastructure following the provision of a development assistance grant worth US$371.35 million. This has been provided by the government of Australia and will be used to supporting PNG's National Transport Development Plan and National Transport Strategy 2010-2030. Much of the grant will be put into upgrading key road links as well as airports.

To meet the country’s infrastructure needs, Russia’s National Association of Builders estimates that some 1,500km of roads must be built/year. Meanwhile the highway authorities in Moscow are aiming to repair around 33% of the city’s road surface every year. Some 23.6 million m2 of road surface will be repaired in Moscow during 2012, compared with 24.7 million m2 in 2011.

    Roads in Tanzania will be upgraded with funding from Japan and the African Development Fund (AfDF). The US$80 million of funding will be used to improve roads in Mtambaswala, Tuduru and Mangaka, and between Bonga and Mayamaya. The road rehabilitation work is expected to help boost transport demand by a factor of four by 2030. The development follows the Comprehensive Transport and Trade System Development Master Plan prepared by Japan.
