Panama plans new project

Work will start shortly on the second stretch of the Panama-Colon highway in Panama.

Work will start shortly on the second stretch of the Panama-Colon highway in Panama. The work will see 14km of new highway being built and the work will be carried out by Brazilian contractor Norberto 1305 Odebrecht. The work is expected to cost US$218 million. The Panama Government will spend $18 million on compensating people affected by the project. The first stage of the Panama-Colon highway, a 35km section, had an initial budget of $184 million although costs spiralled and the work eventually cost $281 million.

    The Egyptian Government is opening the tender process for the Rod el Farag highway in July 2012. The highway project is expected to cost US$1 billion to construct and will be carried out in two stages. One section will run from Alexandria Desert Road to the Cairo Ring Road. Meanwhile the second section will run from the Cairo Ring Road to the eastern side of the Nile-Shoubra area and the Al Ismailia Canal Road.

    Work is starting shortly on the construction of a new highway in India’s Rajasthan State. The highway project will be carried out by the contractor GHV (India) and the package of works was awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The work involves building a stretch of the NH-925A route that runs from Gagaria to Baori Kalan and on to Serwa-Bakhasar. This 197km section of NH-925A will form part of the highway from Sata to Gandhav, with the work costing close to US$175 million.
