Pan-Borneo highway upgrade in discussion

Plans are being worked on for an upgrade to the 2,083km Pan—Borneo highway. The Malaysian Government is discussing options with regard to the highway, which connects Sarawak's Sematan, with Brunei and Sabah's Serudung. The work is expected to require five years to be carried out and would also include constructing link roads. Plans are being worked on for an upgrade to the 2,083km Pan—Borneo highway.     Plans are in hand for the Malaysian sections of the Pan Borneo Highway project. Local contractor Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) plans to take part in the bidding for the Pan Borneo Highway.     The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Communications (MIDCom) for Malaysia's Sarawak state on the island of Borneo said that the state will need over US$ 4.68 billion (MYR 15bn) to finance the construction of 5,00kms of new roads. The roads are set to stretch between the interior areas, including Baram Basin and Kapit, to the major cities in the state.
