M&T Expo 2012, the 8th International Exhibition of Construction Equipment and 6th International Exhibition of Mining Equipment, has opened in São Paulo, Brazil’s biggest city.

It is the largest trade show for the construction and mining industries in Latin America.

According to M&T Expo promoter Sobrameta (the Brazilian Association of Technology for Equipment and Maintenance) the prevailing tone at the opening ceremony was one of optimism among the leaders in the two segments of industry.

Sobratema is expecting business transactions of approximately R$1.2 billion (US$666 million) during the five days of the fair, which is 20% higher than established at the event’s previous edition in 2009.

The infrastructure sector accounts for some R$12 billion (US$ 6.66 billion) in sales per year.

In all, the event gathers 498 exhibitors (226 international) on over 110,000m² of show area.

The show’s expected 45,000 visitors will have a chance to learn about and view what’s new and the product launches of over 1,000 brands that supply equipment for the sectors of construction, infrastructure and mining.

One of the products on show is said to be the first mobile asphalt batch plant designed and manufactured in Brazil.

The 1222 Terex SB150HM plant, capable of producing up to 150tonnes/hour, is one of many new models being launched by manufacturers at the event.

The plant has taken some two years to develop and it is anticipated that it will be in demand in demand Latin America as well as globally, particularly in Africa as well as Russia and the Middle East.

The Smart Batch 150 High Mobility (SB150HM) can produce 2.5tonne batches of asphalt every 60 seconds, and the model on show at M&T has been sold for an infrastructure project between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro where it will undergo final test trials.

Another new product offering is the 2300 Komatsu HB 205, the world's first hybrid excavator, which is now being manufactured by the company's Brazilian subsidiary in the city of Suzano-SP.
