Oman’s crash risk a cause for concern

There is concern in Oman over the risk of crashes on the country’s road network. There were 545 road deaths in Oman during 2018. Road crashes are now one of the leading causes of death and serious injury in Oman. Of the 545 road deaths seen in 2018, 466 saw victims dying before they could be taken to hospital.

    Oman has seen an improvement in its road safety standards for the January-July 2017 period. According to data from the country’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), there was a reduction in road crashes to 2,349 incidents by the end of July 2017, a fall of 16.5% from the 2,814 recorded in the same period in 2016.
