Oman sees road safety gain

Oman’s roads have shown a gain in safety during the first four months of 2016. Crashes dropped 32% for the first four months of this year, compared with the same period during 2015. However road deaths during the first four months of 2016 increased by 1.4% to 210. In all there were 1,413 crashes in the first four months of 2016, while injuries were reduced by 22.8% to 903.

    Oman has seen an improvement in its road safety standards for the January-July 2017 period. According to data from the country’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), there was a reduction in road crashes to 2,349 incidents by the end of July 2017, a fall of 16.5% from the 2,814 recorded in the same period in 2016. Meanwhile the number of serious injuries from road crashes dropped to 374, a fall of 5.8% from 398 in the period. And road fatalities also fell slightly from 246 to 244.

    A major gain in road safety has been recorded in Brunei during 2014. Official data shows that severe injuries caused by road crashes dropped by 35% in 2014 when compared with the figures for 2013. For the same period, minor injuries due to road crashes also decreased by 12%. The official figures show more than 1,500 people were killed in road crashes in this time period, an increase of 6.2% from the first six months in 2016. The number of road crashes in Germany also increased by 2.7% to 1.28 million for the first six months of 2017 when compared against the same period in 2016.
