Oman road link gets underway

In Oman Galfar Engineering & Contracting will handle the US$131.75 million project for the 46km Nizwa-Thumrait road. The project forms part of Oman's Eighth Five Year Plan, which runs between 2011 and 2015.

In Oman 5405 Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company will handle the US$131.75 million project for the 46km Nizwa-Thumrait road. The project forms part of Oman’s Eighth Five Year Plan, which runs between 2011 and 2015. The work is due for completion in under three years and involves the construction of new lanes and some 36km of additional road connections. Bidding was tough for the project with a number of key contractor also placing competitive tenders.

    The first stage of a controversial Russian bridge project is now complete, with the link having been opened to use by cars and buses. The Kerch Strait bridge spans the Black Sea, connecting Russia’s Taman Peninsula in Krasnodar with Crimea, the latter having been controversially annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014. The official opening of the 19km-long bridge was carried out by Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, who drove across the link in a Russian-manufactured Kamaz truck to reach the city of Kerch.

    A new stretch of highway is now open to traffic in Nepal. The Nepalthok-Khurkot Road recently had its official opening. Some US$46.2 million was spent on the section of highway, with much of the funding being provided by the Japanese Government. The Nepalthok-Khurkot section of road forms part of a larger project and is Phase 3, Part-I of the Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas BP highway.
