A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
A landmark deal has been agreed between Shandong Heavy Industry Weichai Power and the German Kion Group. This is claimed to be the largest financial investment in Germany to date made by a Chinese company. Kion is a leading international producer of forklift trucks and under the terms of this deal, it will work with Weichai Power to develop a common platform for the machines for sale worldwide. In Uganda bidding is now underway for the new expressway project to improve transport between capital Kampala and the industrial city of Jinja. The project for the 95km section of road is expected to cost US$1 billion to construct. The contract is being offered under the design, finance, build and operate model, with the route then being handed back to the Ugandan Government once the agreed concession period is complete.
