A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
Plans are moving forward with regard to the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros Bridge in the Philippines. Building the 13.2km bridge is expected to cost up to US$457 million and take three years to be completed once the construction gets underway. The bridge will be built in the Visayas Region of the Philippines and would link a number of islands, replacing the ferry services in use at present. Chinese expertise may be employed to help design and construct the link while South Korean sources could deliver a portion of
Austrian contractor STRABAG is heading the consortium carrying out a highway project in Romania. The project is to build the country’s A3 highway connecting Ungheni and Ogra. Work on this 10km section of highway will take 12 months to complete. STRABAG holds the majority stake in consortium handling the €70 million contract.
A Greek and Qatari consortium will carry out road contracts worth US$520 million in Qatar. Meanwhile US company Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR) will carry out a contract in Qatar worth $135 million.
Strong interest is being seen for the project to build Uganda’s new Kampala-Jinja Expressway. So far eight bids have been submitted for the project, which is expected to cost around US$985 million to build. The tender for the project should be awarded in December 2019. So far the bidders include the Austrian contractor Strabag, the Chinese contractor China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the Indian contractor Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
