A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
China’s infrastructure expansion programme is in the process of transforming the country. Meanwhile its construction market is the largest in the world, comprising around 25% of the country’s US$11 trillion economy. However, slowing domestic growth in recent years has encouraged the Chinese Government to invest in key infrastructure projects in a bid to improve the country’s transport connections.
The Sri Lankan Government is seeking private investment to help develop its new expressway project, which will boost connectivity between capital Colombo and other major conurbations. The expressway will cost some US$1.5 billion to construct and the authorities have already had interest shown in the project by investors from China, Malaysia and South Korea.
