A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
The governments of China, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia have finally approved a project for the building of a new transcontinental road, which will connect Asia and Europe.
The new route is much-needed and will speed the transportation of cargo between the two continents, according to Maxim Sokolov, Russia’s Minister of Transport.

A highway widening project in Nigeria will improve the connection between the city of Minna and the capital, Abuja. The road being widened connects Suleja, which lies close to Abuja, with Minna and the work is being carried out on a 41km section of the route. The work will be carried out by Italian contractor Salini Impregilo and involves adding a second lane to the route, while the project is worth some US$127 million. The 48 month project was awarded by the Nigerian Ministry of Public Works.
Australian engineering consultant SMEC is handling key construction supervision contracts in Tanzania. The firm will supervise upgrading work on the Nzega-Tabora road, which is being rebuilt with an asphalt surface.
Construction work is now commencing for a major new bridge project in China. The bridge is being built in Hainan Province and will measure close to 5.7km long when complete. It will link the mainland of Hainan Province with Ruyi Islet. The project is being designed primarily to handle road traffic as well as a tram link, while it will also carry utilities including water, gas, electricity and fibre optic cabling. Lead contractor for the project is China Railway 18th Bureau Group's 2nd Engineering Company. T
