A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
Construction work on an important road link is underway in South Eastern Nigeria. The US$333 million road link will connect Bodo with Bonny Island. The 35.7km road includes the construction of a new bridge. The work is being carried out by contractor Julius Berger and commenced in 2017, with completion due in 2022. The project faces technical challenges as 7km of the route runs through marshy ground. There have also been issues between residents in the area and the contractor.

Nigeria is planning a series of road and bridge rehabilitation works across the country. The plans calls for 14 projects in Nigeria, including the construction of new links, improving existing routes, widening roads and building bridges. These contracts are worth over US$457 million in all and have been given approval by the country’s Federal Executive Council (FEC).
