A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has contracted out two major road projects to Spanish and Chinese companies. China Hunan Hunda Road & Bridge Construction will build the 111.3km Merkote-Delbo junction-Alaba-Sodo road under a contract worth around US$50 million (€39.12 million). Completion is within two and a half years.
A number of tower cranes have helped complete the Chishi Grand Bridge project in China. Six Potain tower cranes were used to build two 280m tall bridge pylons, high in the clouds above the mountains of southern China. The cranes spent 30 months building the pylons at the Chishi Grand Bridge, which will span 1.47km and carry its road deck 180m above the ground. The bridge will open at the end of 2014.
Austrian contractor Strabag will lead the consortium constructing a stretch of the S7 expressway in Poland. Strabag is teaming up with Heilit+Woerner for the project to build the Trasa Nowohucka section of the S7 linking Rybitwy and Igołomska and lying to the east of Kraków. Construction work is commencing in August/September 2014 and the contract is worth around €130 million. The consortium is handling the upgrading and construction work for some 18.6km of roads in all.
