A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
Construction work has now commenced on the new expressway route through Kenya’s congested capital, Nairobi. The project has been delayed for nearly a decade but building of the link is now going ahead, an important move in reducing traffic jams in the city. The route will have two traffic lanes in either direction and will feature 10 interchanges, with a considerable portion of the expressway being elevated. An international consortium has been formed that will handle a major highway project in Kazakhstan. Worth US$730 million, the consortium’s contract is to build and operate a new tolled ring road around the capital, Almaty. The construction consortium comprises the Turkish contractors Alarko and Makyol, SK Engineering & Construction and Korea Expressway. Pakistan’s infrastructure and economic development agency the Central Development Working Party approved six projects worth US$865 million, including the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC) Raikot section Phase-1.
The Raikot section is the 120km Havalian-Thakot stretch and alone is worth around $830 million, according to a report from The Nation newspaper. The agency’s approval is for land acquisition, affected properties compensation and relocation of utilities to give the road a throughway.

A consortium led by the European construction group Strabag has signed the €178 million contract to build the 10.4km long section of the R2 expressway between Pstruša and Kriván in Slovakia.
