A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
A series of major road projects will help improve Moscow’s connectivity. Russian contractor Mostotrest is to rebuild a series of road connections in Moscow, following the agreement of a deal with the Moscow Construction Department. The road building work will be on the southern section of the North-West Chord, a junction with the Skolkovo Highways and the Moscow Ring Road. A series of major road projects will be carried out by Portuguese contractor Mota Engil in Angola and Brazil. In all the work is worth in excess of US$419 million. The company is building a 10km section of the Via Expressa around capital Luanda, as well as upgrading another key route in the city. Luanda’s population has grown significantly in recent years and many existing roads are now proving unable to cope with demand.
A new bridge, said to be the largest in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in terms of area, is being constructed as part of a major highway project. The US$550 million Saadiyat Expressway project, which involves Leighton Construction (Abu Dhabi), related to one of Australia's largest contracting groups, in constructing a ten-lane, 6.5km long highway to link the UAE's main city, with an exclusive island lying just offshore.
