1259 Putzmeister’s best selling truck-mounted pump, the 42-5, has been redesigned to improve its operation, maintenance and integration on eight-wheeled truck chassis, to ensure its falls well below the maximum permissible gross vehicle weight of 32 tonnes for the 42m pump.
The key objective, says the company, was to lighten the entire outfit without compromising its durability and strength.

“We lacked standardisation for lots of key parts,” said Olivier Saint-Paul, managing director of Putzmeister France. “For example, we now use just three different types of elbow instead of the previous model’s seven, and each pair of outriggers is now identical - and interchangeable.”

A revised hydraulic system, which now has its cooling package mounted on one of the outriggers for improved airflow through its cores, has halved the oil requirement from 600 to just 300 litres of oil. And the 42-5’s boom is said to be more responsive, easier to control and carries less inertia throughout its structure.

“By standardising on components and changing from welded to a bolted construction where possible, we have trimmed a total of 1,500kg from the design,” he said. “It makes it easier to integrate onto a wider range of truck chassis and for operators to remain comfortably below the 32 tonne maximum permissible gross vehicle weight for this size of pump.”

The same weight-saving program has also been applied to the smaller 36-4 model, having had almost 1,500kg removed to ensure it stays beneath the 26-tonne GVW threshold.

Compared to concreting with a delivery pipe, placement speed with the tracked concrete pump is now said to be considerably higher.
