Newly elected Eurobitume president Carl Robertus and vice president, Siobhan McKelvey
Carl Robertus from 5511 BP has been elected president of 7701 Eurobitume, the European Bitumen Association, while 294 Nynas’ Siobhan McKelvey has been elected vice president. Carl Robertus commented, “I am delighted to have been elected president at what is such an important period for the bitumen industry in Europe: a time when we can look forward with confidence. Whether we are discussing health, safety, environmental, economic or technical issues, I believe we have many positive messages to communicate to our users and end customers. With signs that there will be an upturn in the economy, now is the time to be more vocal about the benefits of our product.”

Siobhan McKelvey, the new Eurobitume vice president added, “We are building and strengthening the activities we provide for our members and also developing stronger relationships with stakeholders, from regulators to decision-makers, with a coherent approach and perspective. This will help the bitumen industry have a more powerful voice and a bigger presence in the areas that matter for a continued, effective and sustainable future.”

In their new roles, Carl and Siobhan will principally support the mission of Eurobitume to promote the continued safe and effective use of bitumen throughout Europe on behalf of Eurobitume members, which produce the majority of bitumen manufactured in Europe.

At BP, Carl Robertus is responsible for developing and implementing technology in support of the company’s bitumen businesses, and also for managing the technical support and product development activities carried out by BP’s bitumen laboratories. He continues to be the lead of Eurobitume’s HSE agenda.

Marketing and communications specialist Siobhan McKelvey, who is marketing director at Nynas Bitumen, chairs Eurobitume’s Communications Committee and is also on the Organising Committee for the 6th International 5923 Eurasphalt & Eurobitume Congress, which takes place in Prague, Czech Republic, on 1-3 June 2016.
