New mid-range asphalt compactors from BOMAG coming to market

BOMAG is introducing the first of its Series 5 articulated tandem rollers, which are designed for asphalt compaction. These new machines are in the 6-8tonne weight class and will be followed by other models in the Series 5 line-up towards the end of this year. BOMAG’s new asphalt compactors offer increased performance
172 Bomag is introducing the first of its Series 5 articulated tandem rollers, which are designed for asphalt compaction. These new machines are in the 6-8tonne weight class and will be followed by other models in the Series 5 line-up towards the end of this year. The machines have been designed around a modular concept and share a number of components and are suited to work in small-medium size projects. They have also been designed so as to offer high manoeuvrability and good visibility for the operator, as well as reduced noise emissions. 1265 Kubota engines that meet Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB emission requirements are now being used in these machines and Judith Rheingans of the firm said, “It’s not only the change of the engine. The new engines use less fuel and are quieter but need more space because of the cooling and particulate filters.”

An integrated ECO mode system controls engine speed in relation to load and on average reduces fuel consumption by over 30%. Dual pumps are also used in separate circuits in the vibration system, which helps to increase efficiency and also contributes to reduced fuel consumption. The ergonomic cabs offer a good field of view while the new frame design is said to further improve visibility and good access for maintenance makes the job of servicing easier.

The new tandem roller generation also scores across the whole range in terms of service and maintenance: the engine compartment can be easily accessed from both sides when the bonnet is opened. A daily visual inspection is all that is needed, as the rollers - just like the heavy duty articulated joint - are practically maintenance-free.

Another important feature is the option for BOMAG’s sophisticated intelligent compaction package. This uses satellite navigation to ensure that the operator can see the compaction carried out on a display. The machines are also offered with the firm’s novel ASPHALT MANAGER II compaction system, which further optimises operations.

According to Dynapac, its CG2300 twin drum asphalt roller offers compact compaction due to its novel drum steering system. Measuring 3.99m long by 2.99m high, the CG2300 offers an inner turning radius of just 2.65m as well as a maximum offset of 1.2m, which allows it to operate in tight spaces. This tight turning capability makes the machine more versatile and highly manoeuvrable, while also making it easier to transport to and from site.

BOMAG is offering new soil compacting solutions for the 4-8tonne class with the BW177D-5 being the first of this improved range. Weighing in at 6.7tonnes, the machine has a 55.4kW diesel and Friedrich Knoche, a product manager for the soil compactors said, “These machines are totally new and they have Tier 4 Final engines. There are two versions, the DH with better gradeability and the D, which is the standard model.”
