New Holland Construction’s new skid steer loaders and tracked loaders offer improved performance

The new L230 skid-steer loader and C238 compact track loader being launched by New Holland Construction (NHC) at bauma are said to maintain the compact dimensions of their predecessors while delivering more rated operating capacity, more engine and hydraulic power, and more torque. High performance is claimed for the compact new New Holland machines
The new L230 skid-steer loader and C238 compact track loader being launched by 5895 New Holland Construction (NHC) at 688 Bauma are said to maintain the compact dimensions of their predecessors while delivering more rated operating capacity, more engine and hydraulic power, and more torque. The models are also said to offer best-in-class dump height and reach with New Holland’s patented SuperBoom.

Replacing the L225 and C232, the L230 and C238 feature a 67kW turbocharged Stage IIIA engine, said to enable it to compete in the high-end segment of the market. The FPT engine delivers outstanding torque of 340Nm at a low engine speed of only 1,400rpm, said to create more pushing power while saving fuel.

The high engine and hydraulic power combined with the machine’s perfect balance is said to enable the L230 and C238 to mount large buckets of up to 0.58m² and complete jobs faster.

Exceptional fuel efficiency and large 96.5litre fuel tank offered by the L230 and C238 is said by NHC to give the two new machines great autonomy, easily running for 8 to 10 hours without refuelling.

The optional Enhanced High Flow (EHF) package for both models can boost the pressure of the auxiliary hydraulic system by 70bar to 277bar. Combined with the high 131litre oil flow, the increased pressure is said to provide outstanding hydraulic power. The EHF package also includes, among other features, the Glide Ride boom suspension said to enable faster cycles and more comfortable travel; and the self-levelling bucket that remains parallel to the ground when raising the boom, minimising material spillage and increasing precision when positioning a pallet.

The high engine and hydraulic power is said to make the L230 and C238 particularly effective in applications with demanding hydraulic-powered attachments such as large cold planers, mulchers and hammers.

The models’ innovative vertical lift SuperBoom enables operators to load material right up to the centre of the truck bed, so loading can occur much faster from one side. The claimed best-in-class 55° dump angle on both models enables operators to empty the bucket faster, increasing cycle times and productivity.

Both new machine models have a bucket breakout force of 38.2kN, while the L230 has a 3.76tonne operating weight, and the C238 an operating weight of 4.58tonnes.

Deutz used bauma to show two hybrid projects it is currently working on, including a hybrid drive for excavators and an innovative start/stop system for compact wheeled loaders. The hybrid drive is based on using a 160kW Deutz TCD 6.1 L6 engine with an integrated motor-generator. The engine is linked to an on-board electrical power network that uses super capacitors, a power inverter and an electric slew motor, allowing components to harvest, store and use electrical energy, specifically for slewing functio
