31-tonne Liebherr’s R936 replaces the 934C
718 Liebherr is to introduce two new tracked excavators at INTERMAT in April, weighing 31 and 44 tonnes respectively.

The 31 tonne R936 replaces the R934C and brings with it a Stage IIIB/Tier 4i emissions compliant engine that delivers 160kW from a four-cylinder engine.

Developed by the Liebherr diesel engine competence centre, the new engine uses an external exhaust gas recirculation system and DPF with active regeneration to contribute to higher productivity and up to 15% higher fuel efficiency.

With better interaction between hydraulic and electronic components, Liebherr said the R936 delivers more swing torque, increased tearout and better breakout forces than the R934C.

At 44 tonnes, the heavier R950 SME slots into the range between the R946 and R956 models and in super mass excavation guise, has been developed to increase productivity in quarry applications.

Power comes from a 10.5-litre, six-cylinder common rail diesel engine producing 220kW and like that used in the R936, benefits from external exhaust gas recirculation and DPF with active regeneration to meet Stage IIIB/Tier 4i emissions regulations. With the new engine, expect up to 15% higher fuel efficiency, said the company.

Liebherr has added a second model to its articulated hauler range with the TA240. The 40 tonne capacity truck has a 27m3 body and a 6x6 driveline. Power comes from a 16.2 litre Stage IIIB Liebherr V8 diesel engine delivering 350kW (476hp). This enables the truck to reach maximum speeds of up to 57km/h. A high performance retarder helps to bring the truck to a halt and can be preselected, with both the engine brake and the retarder working as soon as the driver lifts their foot from the throttle pedal. January 6, 2017
Komatsu used INTERMAT to take the wraps off two new Dash 7 wheeled loaders, badged WA380-7 and WA500-7. With engine emissions being the main driver, the smaller 18-tonne WA380-7 packs 142kW from its EU Stage IIIb engine to deliver improved efficiency and lower fuel consumption. The machine also gets torque converter lock-up with the function operating in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, and gives the loader a 40 km/h forward speed.
