New bridge and highway for Laos

Key infrastructure projects planned by the government in Laos will help improve the country’s transport connectivity. Key infrastructure projects planned by the government in Laos will help improve the country’s transport connectivity. Heuangsy Construction is to rebuild a 132km road connecting Xanakham with Hinheup in a deal worth some US$168 million signed with the government. The project includes building a new border checkpoint at Vang as well as work to 19 bridges, and links to the Road No13 North and National Highway No11. Another key project being funded by the Laos Government is the $13.75 million bridge over the Mekong River at Khokkhoador-Nasak, which will connect Vientiane and Xayaboury, and is due for completion in 2015.

    Plans are in hand in South East Asia for an improved road link connecting Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. A loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) worth US$100 million will help fund the work for the 66.4km section running between Kawkareik and Eindu in Myanmar. The highway will run for some 1,450km in all. The road will be called the East-West Economic Corridor and is of key importance to open up trade and transport between these nations.
