Nepal's road connectivity is pushing ahead

A new project by the Government of Nepal recently connected Mugu a distant, mountainous and remote district of Karnali Zone to the country’s road connectivity and has been the 73rd district of the 75 in road connection. A new project by the Government of Nepal recently connected Mugu a distant, mountainous and remote district of Karnali Zone to the country’s road connectivity and has been the 73rd district of the 75 in road connection.  The road was opened officially by Nepal’s prime minister, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, while The minister for Physical Planning and Transport Management Hrideyesh Tripathy, finance minister Barha Man Pun, chief of army staff Gaurav Shumser Rana and vice-chairman Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri of National Planning Commission also attended. The 94km Nagma-Gamghadi road connects the Nagma of Jumla district with Gamghdai  the district headquarter of Mugu. The project started on 25th March 2008 and the work was carried out by the Nepalese Army.

Nepal’s 2437 Ministry of Physical Planning and Works allocated a budget of US$18 million for the road construction work.  This road lies at an altitude of 3,353m and passes through the Talcha Airport and, the historically important Sinja area and Rara lake.  The next projects in line in this area of Nepal are likely to be upgrades to the Karnali Highway, asphalt surfacing for the Nagma-Gamghadi Road section and a new road link to China.

    A new stretch of highway is now open to traffic in Nepal. The Nepalthok-Khurkot Road recently had its official opening. Some US$46.2 million was spent on the section of highway, with much of the funding being provided by the Japanese Government. The Nepalthok-Khurkot section of road forms part of a larger project and is Phase 3, Part-I of the Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas BP highway.
