Equipment deals worth some R$1.2 billion (US$666 million) were concluded during the recent M&T Expo 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil.

The 8th International Trade Fair of Construction Equipment and 6th International Trade Fair of Mining Equipment, was the largest to date and was a showcase for product launches and innovations in equipment technology for the sector.

Organisers, 6447 Sobratema (Brazilian Association of Technology for Equipment and Maintenance) say the figure at the “history-making edition” corresponds to approximately 10% of the total annual sales transactions of the segment and to a rise of 20% compared to the last edition of the event in 2009.

Sobratema says that the amount of business can be explained by the prospects for investment in infrastructure in Brazil until 2016, and also the quality in the profiles of visitors to M&T Expo 2012.

Some 14% of Brazil’s GDP is earmarked for the area of construction, and over 12 million workers; investments of $833 billion) by 2016, and 110,000 construction companies are involved in these construction works.

In all 54,597 people visited M&T Expo, including 2,053 foreign visitors from 71 different countries, and it featured 494 exhibitors, including 224 international companies from 15 countries.

Attendance was 32% higher than in 2009 and 21% higher than expected by Sobratema prior to the opening of the fair.

Sobratema says that 176 Case Construction Equipment, for example, reached the end of the show with a list of about 500 orders; the 364 Wirtgen Group exceeded its sales target (which was considered very bold) by 90%, and the number of machines sold at the event has grown over 500% compared to 2009.

5895 New Holland Construction succeeded in achieving its sales targets and 6448 GTM Máquinas e Equipamentos, the official distributor of 2490 XCMG, accomplished over $2.78 million in business.

“These examples attest to the role of M&T Expo as a generator of business for manufacturers and resellers of equipment, promoting competitiveness and economic, financial and technological development throughout the sector of construction and mining,” says Afonso Mamede, president of Sobratema. Sobratema’s next trade show, Construction Expo, the 2nd International Trade Show of Solutions for Construction and Infrastructure, will take place from 5-8 June, 2013 in São Paulo.
